Fr Gerard, as well as being a priest was also goalkeeper for the St Augustine's staff football team.
He was affectionately known as "The Cat", a description also allocated to Peter Bonetti, England and Chelsea goalkeeper. He must have inherited the title from Fr Gerard.
Sad news. He was a warm, welcoming and very open person
I remember him with great affection
